It doesn’t matter whether you are learning in a traditional school or in a home schooling program, there will be a time when you will experience burnout. This is something that you must avoid so that your learning progress is not affected.
Here are a few helpful tips that you can make use of to avoid possible home schooling burnout:
Be aware of your limitations. From the very start, you should already know your limitations and your child’s limitations. You must be capable of doing things slowly sometimes, especially if your child is still young since you have to bear in mind your child’s learning capacity. Most students are average learners, obviously, so you have to give the lessons based on your child’s learning pace. Never expect your small child to read complicated reading selections nor your teen to ace SAT exams.
Try not to follow strict schedules, because this can put pressure on your child. You should simply set an interesting routine for your child to follow. Children spend most of their time doing routine activities like getting up in the mornings, eating hearty breakfasts, reading, writing, doing light chores, etc. You must insist that they finish their routine activities before they can play outside or with the computer. Even the routine activities vary from day to day but you have to make sure that your child follows these routine activities. You can throw in occasional incentives or fun activities if they finish their routine tasks earlier.
You should try to enter into the spirit of home schooling with your child, since it is a good way of developing a strong relationship with your child and if you and your child can relate to each other, you will find it very much easier to handle curriculum struggles and motivation problems later on. Aside from motivating and guiding your child, you can also pursue some of your own hobbies like gardening or cooking. If your child sees you pursuing your own interests, then he or she will also be motivated to do likewise.
Since your child is in a home schooling program, you should not attempt to copy a traditional schools environment. Try to use unusual ways when teaching your child. Home schooling is also about flexibility and creativity, so if you can achieve an easy-going but firm atmosphere, you can probably prevent burnout.
Just always try to bear in mind that with home schooling, you don’t have to structure your teaching methods in the traditional way. You can just do things in an enjoyable manner especially when teaching very young children, so that they learn naturally. Ensure you keep the day in the right perspective to avoid burnout. Although your children might forget some of the day’s lessons, that’s all right too because somehow children grow in intelligence as well as in physique.
For sure, your children will always think back on your moments together and remember fondly how well you treated them. The old song goes: “… there’s no place like home” and for little pupils, home is the best place to learn the first lessons of life. If your teenagers are already in high school or in college, they can still do home schooling if they want to. That would also a good decision because you’d get to keep an eye on your children’s performance.
Parents always try to look after their children’s best interests, so, if after careful thought, you still reckon that home schooling is the right option for your family, then run with it. Just follow the tips stated previously in order to prevent burnout. Make time for enjoyable activities from time to time in order to prevent monotony, which may lead to burnout.

“Please don’t throw that away,” I remarked to my little daughter. “I can use it to make a puppet.”
I said these words many times when my children were young and the family wasn’t surprised to hear them. When my son was five years old he collected boxes and scraps for me to use to make puppets.
Since a puppet is any object that is completely controlled by a person and used to give an illusion of life, just about anything can be a puppet. Ive confiscated everything from cereal boxes to mops and brooms to create figures that communicate my ideas. And Ive learned a lot from others who do the same.
Socks are commonly used as puppets. You can do so by placing your hand inside and using your thumb and fingers to simulate a mouth motion. You can even cut a slit in the sock and use a round piece of felt sewn in to create the mouth. Buttons can be used as eyes, yarn as hair, and so on.
For many puppets that you will make, buttons, sequins, or cut out felt will work just fine as eyes. If you want to, you can purchase eyes (the wiggly kind are popular) at a craft store for a reasonable price. Something like string, yarn, thread, or cord will be helpful for adding some hair to the puppet. Scraps of cloth, felt, ribbon, lace, or even paper can help with clothes and other finishing touches.
Grab two washcloths and sew them together like a mitten. Then embroider or glue a face on the palm of this “glove” for a clever hand puppet.
Fascinating finger puppets can be made by cutting an empty paper towel roll in thirds. Add faces and decorations with crayons and scraps of colored paper or fabric.
You can quickly make stick puppets with a cloth or handkerchief. Fill the center with cotton, wrap it up and tie it around a stick or a pencil. It will resemble the shape of a large lollipop with the ball on top of the stick.
How about a quick puppet from an item that everyone has around the kitchen. Draw a face on an old wooden spoon and you’ve got a puppet. Add some hair with yarn if you’d like.
To hide behind while performing the puppet show, you can use a small table turned on it’s side. Also, you could simply hide behind a chair or even a large piece of cardboard folded and stood up.
Take a walk through your house and let your imagination wander with you. You’ll find many things that can be turned into puppets to communicate your ideas to the children you teach. With just a few puppets, youre ready to perform.

In the last decade, home schooling has become extremely popular especially among middle and upper-middle class families. There have been many arguments before about home schooling. Teachers say that there are advantages as well as disadvantages in home schooling but it seems that the former outweigh the latter and therefore, a lot of families are now selecting home schooling over the traditional schools.
Cultures vary enormously and relationships within the family are affected by culture too. In some cultures, family bonds are quite strong, but there are also those who don’t have very good relationships with other family members at all. However, by home schooling, family ties are enhanced. Parents have to spend enough time with their children because of the home schooling program and the children will have to listen to their parents as well. Communication is much improved and both parties have to learn about the importance of both speaking and listening.
Many families opt for home schooling because of its diversity. However, since the cost of home education is a bit more than normal schools, the financial standing of the family is quite important. However, even without thinking about money, many parents would still go for home schooling, because it can ensure their children’s safety. Public schools often have dangerous situations that can affect kids terribly, however if they are in a home schooling program, they can avoid these situations and their parents will be there to guide them.
Rather than placing the children at a public school, many parents prefer home schooling because the educational environment in the public schools is not that conducive. In public schools, very young pupils may experience difficulties that can affect them socially, mentally, and academically for a long time. Pedagogues that have conducted surveys, claim that children learn better in a good environment surrounded by loved ones. A further benefit of home schooling is that children can learn according to their capacity. You can’t just deliver a new lesson, if the previous one hasn’t been learned yet. It may take longer, but the results are definitely better.
As said earlier, home schooling is a tad more expensive. However, if you think that you might be able to cut down on your child’s educational expenses, you’re probably wrong. Home schooling expenses are almost the same as those of traditional schools. However, if you participate in the forums of the parents of home-schoolers, you will find that there are ways to reduce costs. Of course, you will need to spend on the resource materials, computer, and internet, but you can also visit external resources like cultural do’s, public libraries, etc..
You will get even more cost-saving ideas, if you contact other parents. The Internet offers endless opportunities and with a bit of research, you can definitely discover ways to ease the costs. If you don’t want to hire tutors, then you will have to learn the lessons too. You have already studied the various subjects in your kids’ educational program, so you only need to review them. You can get further educational material online or the bookshop and later on, teach your children.
Therefore, it is obvious, that home schooling is far and away the best option, especially if your child is still quite young. So, it all depends on you and your child, whether they continue this form of education until they graduate for college.

Do you consider that passing time in traditional classrooms is not worth it? For some people, that is true. For instance, a test is due and the students are told to memorize a lot of dates and names. However, after taking the exam, they will definitely forget 90% of those dates and names. That’s what most students do every time they have exams. If you are one of these people, you will find traditional history lessons boring, so home schooling, which focuses more on the history of the world will probably catch your fancy.
Just simple memorization is not enough to realize the importance of historical, famous people and fateful events. Through home schooling in history, you can learn about the different cultures of the past in a different, but interesting way - that is your own way! By the study of history, you will also understand the current situation of the world.
If you think that home schooling is the most effective option for your child’s learning, you should also be prepared to take on some responsibilities. Since there will be no teacher physically present, you will have to oversee your child’s educational progress yourself.
Let’s say your kid supports a particular sport. You could combine history and home schooling by simply hanging a map on the wall of your child’s schoolroom and mark the location of his favourite sports team. Make sure that you track all the team’s games, scores, activities and schedules. Then, you could return to history lessons by reading biographies of the various athletes, who had been popular in the particular sport that your child likes. Apart from that, you could also study the history of that particular sport and discover where it originated, its inventor, and the other things happening in that particular time in history.
For example, let’s say your child loves baseball, you can teach your child about the history baseball, government hearings on the use of steroids and other favourite pastimes at that period of time. But remember that you can adapt this concept to any interest like dancing, flight, cars or any invention. You can also have conversations with your child about current events or read interesting historical documents and other books. Apart from that, you can also watch documentaries together with the rest of the family. There are various resources that you can use while home schooling, like TV, maps, newspapers, books, a globe, an atlas, and encyclopedias. Due of the exciting adventures that you and your child will read about and see on film, he/she will find it easier to remember the names and dates of the history lessons. After all, learning is better when it is done in a fun way.
These methods are recommended if your child is still young, however once your child gets older, you should choose a home schooling program that is suitable for his/her age group. The programs are available at the elementary, high school, and even college levels. You simply have to search online for these various programs. One good thing about these programs is that you can tailor them to fit the interests of your child. However, you have to make sure that all the lessons are followed by your child.
After you and your child have decided to try home schooling, you must be prepared to make some changes to your life. The learning environment will now be in your home not at a school and through the various resources that you think best, such as a computer and the Internet.

Four things we learned today - If Frank Gehry’s Bilbao was the Woodstock of the age of unfettered starchitecture, Rem Koolhaas’ CCTV building in Beijing may be its Altamont—or so sayeth the Wall Street Journal . - America’s greatest secular celebration, the Super Bowl, may soon be played in London . (For what it’s worth, we’d love to see what British soccer fans would think of moving the FA Cup Final to, say, Tampa Bay.) - The bassists from the Sex Pistols and Devo, guitarists from the Beach Boys and the MC5, and the drummer from Blondie

According to the National Center For Education Statistics, roughly 1.1 million children underwent home schooling in 2005 alone. That’s a lot of children. Once upon a time, homeschooling used to be an extreme statement - something like a declaration of independence.
It was the (right-wing|conservative Christians who advocated homeschooling in the 1980’s and legalized it in every State. But the average homeschooler of today is not religiously motivated.
More recent surveys show that parents are really fed up with the public school system where much of the learning is superficial and compulsory. They are also concerned about the negative environment in school, ranging from drugs and abuse to negative peer pressure.
Because of this, we have a surprising mix of people who form the homeschooling world of today. They cut across all religious creeds and all regional borders. Their main aim is providing meaningful and productive education through a method that strengthens the bond between the various members of the family.
All these families have one major thing in common - a long standing commitment to the sanctity of childhood. The children of these families are given a primary position. Many believe, and, probably, rightly so, that home schooling allows parents to bring up their kids in a more natural and caring environment.
Public schools can make a child nervous, diffident and downright mean. Children who get their education at home are protected from these damaging, negative influences until they reach an age where they can withstand them.
Home-schooling draws the whole family into the almost religious job of teaching. Everyone is put to work. Both the parents together form a bond with the children. Any experience can be turned into an educational experience. Both the parents are aware of exactly what is going on in their child’s head.
Parents also have a greater say over the kind of religious and moral values that the child is learning. Even watching a film together can become an educational experience. Trips to the libraries, zoos, museums and other places become educational experiences as well as recreational ones.
A home-schooling family is primarily dependent on the income of one earning member. That means that often outgoings have to be curtailed and proper planning of expenditure is a must. This helps to bring the family members together and everybody gets involved in the task of saving money.
Just having a parent at home to supervise, to nurture and to care for the children brings with it a lot of love and caring. Even the husband chips in and there just is no room for boredom.
Yes, problems still do crop up, and there will be many misgivings in your mind, but when you know that your kids can always count on you, and your kids know it too, then homeschooling becomes a very rewarding experience.
